Well that wasn’t at all traumatic. No. Honestly.
Other than the constant drizzle, it took over an hour to work out how to get the CB/DIN cage fixed in the console (eagle-eyed viewers will notice that – clearly – the DIN cage isn’t in the console at the moment, as the CB is sticking out).
The CB is also too long for the console, leaving me with a few choices;
- Cut back into the head-lining so make room for it. (Discounted due to it being a bit too permanent)
- Put the CB back on the dash. (That’s a negative after having sorted all the wiring out)
- “Create”(tm) some kind of bracket/mount/something to take the place of the DIN cage/make it not look so sticky-outy. (Possible)
- Put a couple of screw through either side to meet up with the ones that the bracket used to attach to. (Definitely possible)
- Ignore it for the moment. (Cough)
I’ve only managed to snap one drill-bit, leave on fir-tree clip in situ, ignore a couple of instructions, and snap one of the new fir-tree clips off in the head-lining so – all-in-all – that’s a massive win all round.
The actual set-up now (if you ignore the above) is really good – very happy with it – and it’s lovely not to have wires dangling all over the place.
Other than deciding what to do with the CB mounting (once I’ve finished ignoring it), I’m going to get some of that black spirally stuff to wrap the remaining bundles of wires where they’re routed.
