Ever since man has traversed the icy wastes, one question has remained upon the collective consciousness of the human psyche – Why don’t penguin’s feet stick to the ice?
It was with some delight then that, last night, I saw an advert for 118 188′s new question service. Simply text or phone a question, and they will send you the answer. So I sent them a simple text;
“Why don’t penguin’s feet stick to the ice?”
And waited. And waited.
Thirty minutes later, the phone roostered at me and the answer had appeared ;
“Penguins keep their feet tucked under their feathers and body fat which keeps them warm and stops their feet from getting cold and sticking to the ice”.
Not bad.
A few seconds later another text arrived ;
“The 118118 text team felt that the last answer took us longer to answer than we’d like. So this time we haven’t charged you.”
Hat’s off 118118 blokes!
By the way, if anyone out there is desperate to shift an overdue sprog or in need of reverse colonic irrigation, I can fully recommend Blue Sea’s chicken vindaloo.
Look, I’ve done some gardening!

It’s obvious isn’t it. You’ve just got a shiny new phone and you need something to protect it from the bashing that it’s going to receive in your pocket (or handbag, I suppose, if you’re a girl)
So, cue a quick sprint round the internet to find something that is smart, doesn’t increase the profile of the phone by 300% and that actually does what it claims to. As an aside, being a Blackberry user of some years, I was also looking for something that had an option of a decently robust belt clip too – as I hate walking around looking like I’ve got a hernia or a hard-on.
In any case, it boiled down to the “Tradition” by Noreve. (Note, the second “e”should have an acute on it). Not only was it stylish black leather, designed specifically for the phone I have and slim. The site also made use of excessive flash and the cases were made in and shipped from Saint Tropez. Top notch!
I parted with thirty (choke) six Euros and waited for a couple of days. What turned up was a very stylish boutique-ish box, containing the case, some blurb, a belt clip and a screwdriver. Lovely.
As far as the case is concerned, it is beautifully made, looks as flash as the web-site (geddit?) and fits ever so snugly around the phone. Every port and socket is exposed and available – including the camera, and the whole thing exudes a well-made feel.
I followed the instructions and unscrewed the branded screw at the back of the case – with the supplied screw driver – and then screwed in the belt-clip clippy bit – the piece of the case that will engage with the belt clip – and off I went. For a couple of days until the screw started undoing. I re-did it up. It slowly came undone again. I re-did it up. This time it fell off the clip as the screw came undone totally. I replaced the original flat screw and now walk around looking like I have a hernia/hard-on.
Bloody annoying that. It seems as though the motion of my slinky John Travolta-esque walking is sufficient to slowly undo the screw on the case. I could add a dab of Loctite, but there are times that I might want to have the phone in my pocket.
Pros:
Very nicely put together (apart from the belt clip)
Resilient
Covers everything that needs covering
Stylish
Impressive response during purchase process
Cons:
Belt-clip is crap
Expensive
Overall:
8/10 (Had the belt-clip worked, this would have been a 10/10 contender)
